What is a Participant Band?

A Participant Band identifies a participant at the top or bottom of choreography tasks and sub-choreographies. It shows who is involved in the interaction and distinguishes the initiator.

Visual Representation

Participant Bands appear as horizontal bands at the top and bottom of choreography elements. The initiating participant's band is shaded/filled, while the non-initiating band is unfilled.

Key Characteristics

  • Participant identification: Shows who participates in the interaction
  • Initiator marking: Shaded band indicates message sender
  • Position significance: One band at top, one at bottom
  • Multi-participant: More complex choreographies can have multiple bands

Common Use Cases

Service Provider Response

Provider (shaded) sends service response to Consumer (unfilled) in service choreography.
